eLearning Awards 2007: Brussels, Belgium

Dear kids and teacher-friends,

I came to Brussels yesterday morning to be at the EUN eLearning Awards 2007 ceremony. I was one of the 13 finalists. It was a very simple, but very dignified hour-long event.

Our blog – CALL Lessons 2005-2007 – won the international eLearning Awards 2007 Gold Prize in the category of "The school of the future". I am very proud of our work and our achievement at the international level.

At the ceremony I dedicated the prize to you, students and colleagues. It wouldn't have been possible wthout your collaboration. This award belongs to us all! At the Gala Dinner I recorded a few words to you and all our teachers-friends-collaborators.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Your "crazy and radical" teacher,

Teresa Almeida d'Eça

Blogue português vence prémio de eLearning

Earlier today I went to visit students involved in the project who are now in a different school. I was in 5 different classes and was able to give them all the great news and a very special Christmas present. It was a very exciting and moving event with students with their arms open to hug me and big smiles on their faces.

I created a wiki with the messages I received from friends and family in different parts of the world and with photos (though not mine yet!). Take a look!

Barbara/Bee Dieu created this very nice post about our work and the award in Dekita.org

I gave an hour and half interview about the award and my work with ICTs to Jorge Afonso, "Histórias e Músicas", Antena 1 (national radio). It also features some of my favorite music. VIP: Between minutes 48 and 59 it's the 1:00 am news. You can advance the timer. [I deleted the "news". 18dec09]

  1. Cara Teresa,
quero felicitar profundamente o teu trabalho e o prémio bem merecido!
Agradecemos a tua partilha e a tua dedicação.

  2. Hello Teresa.
Congratulations for the award! And thanks, because without knowing your efforts and initiatives inspire other teachers to keep on innovating and use of new technology with students.
    All the best.

  3. Parabéns, dear Teresa and students, Parabéns!

I am absolutely unsurprised to learn that the 2005-2007 CALL Lessons won a gold prize at the EUN eLearning Awards 2007 ceremony—but I am wonderfully happy to learn that you have gained even wider recognition for the outstanding work that you’re doing.

What a shining example you are for all who are interested in computer-mediated teaching and learning!

    Felicitações!

    Com muitos fuertes abraços—

    Dennis in Phoenix

  4. Hello again, Radical Teacher and Students.

I wondered, yesterday, why my photo didn’t appear when I posted my comments. There was a good reason: I logged in with the wrong password! Now that’s fixed, I think.

    Once again, felicitações!

And also again, there’s only one word that’s appropriate as a comment on this new accomplishment:

    Parabéns!

    Com muitos abraços—

    Dennis in Phoenix

  5. Dearest Dennis,
As always, your words touch me deeply! You are the greatest and most dedicated collaborator and enthusiast of our work.
I’m glad I was given the opportunity to publicly dedicate the award to dear colleagues, such as you, and to all my students.
This morning I went to another school in the area where about half of the students in the project are now. I was warmly received by the School Board, who was very impressed with the award and who gave me permission to go from six different classes to tell my students the great news. In one class one student (not one of mine) made this comment: “This is true a teacher!”, and started applauding enthusiastically, followed by all others. It was very special. 🙂
I’m glad that you logged in so that we have your photo.
I keep counting on your collaboration for this year’s blogs. Work has already started with those audio messages, right?
    Warm hugs and beijinhos,
    Teresa

  6. «Congratulations and celebrations !!» 🙂

    …and once again: Muitos PARABÉNS!!

    Beijinhos
    Margarida Belchior

  7. Dear Margarida,
Thank you for your lovely and enthusiastic message! 🙂
It’s very nice to know that my work inspired your collaborative work between the Setubal School of Education and elementary teachers starting their career. That’s a great honor for me!
I hope to embark in a new phase with interactive whiteboards (IWBs), though the work I’ve been doing is very similar. However, the IWB will add a touch of innovation, motivation and excitement!
A final note to say that my husband and I really enjoyed the Seminar at FCUL yesterday afternoon on IWBs, and learned a lot from Zé Paulo Santos. Thank you for enrolling me. I’m just sorry you weren’t there.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
    Beijinhos, Teresa

  8. Dear Ana Rita,
    You’re from 6E, aren’t you?
Thank you for your “congratulations”, but “we all” deserve congratulations. I’m extremely happy that “our” work had such recognition.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Hugs and kisses from your English teacher, always

  9. Hi Teacher !
I was very happy about our Prize, and I’ve liked very much the surprise that you made us !
I hope you to have a good holiday, and to have a good class year, ant that your students to behave better that old 6ºD !
    Bye !
    Huges, Andre Nobre

  10. Hi, André!
“Our” prize was a fantastic and early Christmas present, wasn’t it?
It was very exciting for me to visit you all in the different classes in your new school and to see the enthusiastic reactions of you all and of students who were not in the project.
The CE and all the different teachers were very nice about letting me interrupt the classes.
You have made my day with your comment “…that your students to behave better that old 6ºD”. It shows that you are more mature and understand that 6.D didn’t always behave as you should have, but we had some fun times and learning, and that’s what counts.
Have a fabulous vacation and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
Hugs from your English teacher, always

  11. Olá Teresa!

Parabéns! A Teresa é simplesmente fantástica.
    You’re MY NUMBER ONE TEACHER!!!!
    FELIZ NATAL
    Manuela

  12. Dear “Radical Teacher” and wonderful students,

My words were 100% do corazão. You and your students are living testimony to the power of computer-mediated teaching and learning and are outstanding examples for all of us who are interested in this area!

“This is a true teacher!” – What greater tribute could any teacher receive?

Yes, you can definitely count on my collaboration for this year’s blogs. I actually completed my audio messages and sent them to you. Did you receive them?

    Dennis in Phoenix

  19. Hi, Luísa!
Thanks so much for your very nice words about my work and myself.
We certainly are looongtime friends and had some difficult professional moments together that strengthened our friendship.
    Beijinhos, Teresa
